Which products suit your skin?

If you’re anything like I was prior to finding Beautycounter you may be overwhelmed by the unbelievable amount of options available to you in the skincare and cosmetics industry. It can be confusing and expensive to navigate the beauty section at the department store, or even the drug store. To compound that you may be unsure of what type of skin you actually have and what type of ailments plague you. This makes it even more difficult because you don’t even know what you are looking for! On top of that, this industry is virtually unregulated, so you cannot even believe the claims most companies make regarding their product. For instance, there is no law stating that a company cannot claim their product to be organic when it is not. So, that “organic skin care” claim on the package of your favorite skin cream often time means absolutely nothing and can be listed on products that have ZERO organic properties. Scratching your head yet? Don’t worry, you’re not alone and I am here to help.

I am going to make the process simple for you by listing which Beautycounter products I recommend you use for the most common skin conditions and types. Keep in mind that ALL of our products are formulated without the use of over 1,500 dangerous or potentially dangerous ingredients that are almost always found in other products. Beautycounter is on a mission to get safe and effective products in the hands of everyone. I am so excited to be part of this movement and to be able to shop with confidence knowing that Beautycounter has the safest products on the market.

What it is: Eczema is different for each person in how it looks and feels and even where it occurs on the body. It can be mild, moderate, or severe. Generally, it is categorized as red, dry, sensitive skin caused by inflammation. Many times it can even include an intense itch. It is most commonly found in babies and children, although adults can get it as well. It is important to note that ALL of Beautycounter’s products are safe and gentle enough for all ages including babies, kids, teens and adults. Eczema is also called atopic dermatitis and can be treated with oral medications, steroid creams and light therapy. I say skip the steroid cream (no thanks!) and try Beautycounter’s safe solutions instead!

Which product(s) to use:

FACE eczema: Use the Essentials Routine Clean facial cleanser. Next, apply Lustro oil #1 mixed with the Essentials Day and/or Night creams.

BODY eczema: First, use the Everyday Wash for adults or Kidscounter Squeaky Clean body wash for kids. Next, use the Lustro body oil, Hydrate body lotion, or Enrich Body Butter. Both the lotions are formulated with shea butter and mongongo oil to hydrate and nourish skin and boast organic sunflower oil, aloe, and chamomile soothe and smooth. For even better results mix the Lustro oil with the Hydrate or Body Butter.

Finally, for extreme dryness and eczema flare-ups you can use the Countertime Nourishing Cleansing Balm on its own anywhere on your body and face. The cleansing balm is amazing! It provides extreme hydration and can reduce or eliminate severe dry patches caused by dermatitis. With vitamin C to brighten skin and raspberry and cranberry seed oils to hydrate, the formula can also be used as an intensely nourishing face mask.

HAND eczema: I don’t know about you, but my hands are where I have the worst dermatitis. The Citrus Mimosa Hand Cream is AMAZING! Shea butter and vitamin E combined with organic sunflower oil, aloe, chamomile and calendula hydrate and soften skin. You will not believe how smooth and luxurious it feels and how much it helps!

What it is: Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder characterized by sensitivity, flushing, itching and burning of the face. Treatments such as antibiotics or anti-acne medications can control and reduce the symptoms, but why take medication when you can treat it with Beautycounter’s safe solutions?

Which product(s) to use:

Beautycounter’s facial oils include key ingredients such as rosehip and jojoba oils that help control rosacea.

Additionally, Rose Water Spray helps calm the skin. It is a skin-softening toning spray made with organic rose essence, purified water, and sodium hyaluronate, which moisturizes the affected areas.

What it is:

Acne is a skin disorder caused by hormones and other substances on the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles. Symptoms include plugged pores, redness, pimples and oily skin. It is most common to find acne on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders. Try the following solutions instead of the often dangerous concoctions available in today’s market that include carcinogens and hormone disruptors.  It is even more dangerous to use those chemical laden products on kids and teens as they are still growing.

Which product(s) to use:

First, wash with the Charcoal Cleansing Bar, which pulls the impurities out. Next, (and most importantly) use Lustro oil #3 alone or in addition to the Essentials face collection. This combination has been known to work miracles on teens and adults who are acne prone. It may seem counter-intuitive to use oil on oily skin, but actually the oil works because it is an anti-microbial that cleans out impurities beneath the surface of the skin. Acne creams tend to be some of the most dangerous on the market, so it’s especially important to use our safe solutions instead!

Additionally, you can check out the Touchup Skin Concealer Pen to cover those pesky pimples!

What it is:

Psoriasis is a skin disease marked by red, itchy, scaly patches. When speaking of plaque psoriasis (the most common form) what happens is that your immune system is overactive and triggers skin inflammation causing skin cells to produce at an accelerated rate. Your body can’t shed the new skin cells fast enough, so the dead skin cells pile up on top of each other and are brought to the surface, which creates the thick, red, itchy, flaky patches.

What product(s) to use:

I recommend using the Lustro Sugar Scrub along with the Lustro body oil and then either Hydrate body lotion or Enrich Body Butter. It is not a cure, but it can help significantly with the symptoms.

What it is:

Many people experience an overproduction of oil that occurs when overactive sebaceous glands produce more oil than is needed. This is caused by a myriad of things including, but not limited to, genetics, seasonal changes, medications, use of incorrect products and skincare tools, sun tanning and hormonal changes. It causes the face to be greasy, shiny and more susceptible to breakouts.

Which product(s) to use:

The Essentials Routine Clean facial cleanser is formulated with witch hazel which is known to remove the excess oil and lift dirt from your pores without dehydrating your skin. After cleansing I recommend using the Lustro Face Oil #3.

What it is:

Dry skin, also known as xerosis, affects millions of people. It not only plagues the face but can affect the whole body as well. The most common cause of dry, flaky skin is winter weather, extreme heat (including steamy showers), aging, environmental irritants, harsh soaps and detergents, overall health/skin conditions and sun exposure.

Which product(s) to use:

I would start with using the Lustro Sugar Scrub for your body and the Gentle Exfoliator Polishing Cream  for your face. The sugar scrub’s organic brown sugar removes dead skin and the blend of essential oils leave the skin feeling smooth and supple. The exfoliator uses jojoba beads to remove dead skin (not the environmentally unfriendly micro-beads that has been in the news lately) and the organic coconut oil and aloe soothe your dry skin. After that the next step would be the Enrich Body Butter for your body and either the Essentials Day and Night creams or the Countertime Day and Night creams for your face. For additional hydration add Lustro Face Oil #1 to your regimen and for the ultimate hydration check out the Nourishing Cleansing Balm for extra dry areas. It is a miracle worker!

What it is:

Typically, combination skin is when some parts of your face are dry or flaky while the center part of your face, nose, chin, and forehead (called the T-zone) is oily.

Which product(s) to use:

Similar to oily skin, I recommend using the Essentials Routine Clean facial cleanser which is formulated with witch hazel and is known to remove excess oil and lift dirt from your pores without dehydrating your skin. After cleansing I recommend using the Lustro Face Oil #3.

What it is:

Hyperpigmentation is a common and usually harmless condition where patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin (the brown pigment that produces normal skin color) forms deposits in the skin. Hyperpigmentation can be caused by sun damage, inflammation, acne, or hormones (especially in pregnancy).

Which product(s) to use:

The Countertime Collection is definitely the best for reducing dark spots. Within this line the Enlightening Treatment Pads coupled with the Radiance Firming Complex and Uplifting Day Cream is the most effective to combat hyperpigmentation. All three of these products contain fruit acids that work to reduce the appearance of dark/sun spots.

What it is:

Wrinkles are slight lines or folds in the skin that can be caused by many factors, but primarily age, exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, smoking and repeated facial expressions.

Which product(s) to use:

The Countertime Collection is specifically formulated to promote the appearance of healthy skin while reducing the signs of aging. This is due to powerful, natural and safe ingredients like Spilanthes Acmella flower extract, mixed fruit acid complex and ginger root extract. Below I have broken down each item in this collection for you in the order in which I suggest you use them:

  • Soothing Face Wash – Use just a pea drop of this super smooth facial cleanser which also doubles as an eye makeup remover.
  • Radiance Firming Complex – Like a serum, but richer and creamer, it contains vitamin C, mixed fruit acid complex, and algae and marine extracts that combine to hydrate the skin and combat the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration.
  • Enlightening Treatment Pads – The first line of defense against daily stressors, supplying skin with antioxidants while reducing the signs of aging. They also work like a toner by tightening and refining the appearance of pores.
  • Uplifting Day Cream – Promotes firmer looking skin, reduces redness and boosts skin’s defenses against environmental stress.
  • Restorative Night Cream – Promotes beautiful, healthy-looking skin by locking in moisture as you sleep. Skin looks and feels smoother, firmer and more hydrated.
  • Vibrant Eye Perfefctor – Provides moisture and fights fine lines. You can even feel it working.
  • Nourishing Cleansing Balm – Really no other product like it! You put it on at night and it melts into your skin while removing makeup and moisturizing as it cleanses. It can double as an overnight face masque for extra hydration. I put it on my son’s dry spots and it heals them very efficiently.

What it is:

Large pores may not be dangerous, but they can be unsightly and can often lead to pimples. Most of the time they are due to genetics (thanks, mom!), but other times large pores can be due to oily skin since the excess oil and dirt pools around the pores causing your skin to swell, which make them appear enlarged.

Which product(s) to use:

Enlightening Treatment Pads can significantly reduce the size of your pores. It is actually the lentil seed extract that tightens and refines the appearance of pores.

In conclusion:

I hope you were able to find your own skin type and condition on this list. Not only do the aforementioned products work, but they are safe as well.
